You’ve got clean architecture, massive windows, sculpture gardens, and guests literally exploring art during cocktail hour while we sneak off for portraits. The spaces here are incredible, the backdrops are varied without needing to travel, and the whole day flows really naturally because everything happens in one place. It’s also a not-for-profit gallery, so hosting your wedding here supports the local arts community - which is a pretty great bonus!

History

Founded in 1914, the Art Gallery of Hamilton is the oldest and largest art museum in Southern Ontario. After moving locations several times as it expanded, the gallery opened its current King Street West home in 1977 across from City Hall, followed by a major $18 million renovation in 2003 that elevated it to a world-class exhibition space. Today it houses one of Canada’s most respected permanent collections and is notable for being a major public gallery outside a primary metropolitan centre.

A unique experience provided by the Art Gallery of Hamilton is the option to include a guided tour of an exhibition for you and your guests. This is a great way to make your day stand out from the typical. You can even request activities including re-creating an AGH masterpiece or having a gallery scavenger hunt to add a unique touch to your event.

CATERING & BEVERAGE SERVICES

Full culinary and beverage services are available from the Art Gallery of Hamilton in each reception space. The AGH Event Services team will work with you and their Chefs to create the perfect menu to complement your day.

EVENT DÉCOR

The Art Gallery of Hamilton will also assist in creating a variety of special design touches for your wedding. This includes lounge areas with stylish couches and chairs, an outdoor patio, ceiling décor, lighting, and more.

Irving Zucker Sculpture Garden

Capacity: up to 175 guests

An outdoor ceremony surrounded by contemporary sculptures in an urban garden setting. Perfect for afternoon and early evening ceremonies and a really unique backdrop compared to traditional venues.

Jean & Ross Fischer Gallery

Capacity: up to 125 guests

A bright gallery ceremony surrounded by rotating exhibitions. Intimate, artistic, and a great indoor option year-round.

Joey & Toby Tanenbaum Pavilion

Capacity: up to 125 guests

A clean, modern indoor ceremony space with floor-to-ceiling windows and lots of natural light. Requires a room reset before dinner.

Reception Spaces

The AGH works well for both intimate weddings and full guest lists. Between galleries, glass architecture, and the sculpture garden, your guests get a lot to explore throughout the evening.

Joey & Toby Tanenbaum Pavilion

Capacity: 175 guests seated

The main reception space. Floor-to-ceiling glass, white walls, and direct access to the Sculpture Garden. During the day it feels minimal and airy, and at night it turns into a glowing downtown event space.

Jean & Ross Fischer Gallery & Lounge

Capacity: 50 seated dinner; 75 cocktail style

A smaller two-level gallery space perfect for intimate weddings. You can have ceremony, dinner, and dancing all together without the day feeling separated into different rooms.

As of 2026, the rental and fees for a wedding at the Art Gallery of Hamilton are as follows:

Reception Rentals

Food & Beverage Charges

• Plated Dinners start at $110 per plate
• Open bar packages start at $48.50 per person

Room rentals include tables, linens, place settings, chairs, basic setup, cocktail hour furnishings, and an on-site wedding consultant to coordinate the day. Note that a minimum guest counts of 100 adults on Saturdays and 76 adults on Fridays/Sundays applies. As a registered charity, the venue does not charge HST.
