A History in the Making

For nearly 80 years Royal Botanical Gardens has been an ecological jewel at the western tip of Lake Ontario. The RBG lands were set aside by the early conservationist Thomas Baker to create the region’s first botanical garden and were originally created to serve as both a regional botanical tourism site and an environmental agency.

Now a designated national historical site, RBG is revered worldwide for its extensive 300 acres of display gardens. What makes RBG unique is that it also protects and stewards over 2400 acres of environmentally sensitive lands and diverse ecosystems that connect the Niagara escarpment to Lake Ontario.

The Rock Garden

The Rock Garden is one of the most iconic places to host a wedding at Royal Botanical Gardens. With winding stone paths, rich textures, lush greenery, water features, bridges, and tucked-away corners, it’s an absolute dream for wedding portraits and gives couples so much variety throughout the day.

For weddings with around 50 to 100 guests, ceremonies can take place outdoors in the Courtyard or on the Upper Lawn, surrounded by seasonal florals and garden views, with endless nearby spots for portraits before cocktail hour.

The reception then moves indoors to the Great Room, a 3,455-square-foot space filled with large windows that let in beautiful natural light while maintaining a strong connection to the gardens outside. The Great Room also serves as the rain plan for your ceremony, making it a fantastic year-round option at the Rock Garden.

RBG Centre & Hendrie Park

Seats up to 250 guests

The RBG Centre & Hendrie Park is such a dream for couples who want a mix of garden romance and modern elegance. Ceremonies happen on the Rose Garden Patio, an open-air spot with sweeping views of lush gardens and fragrant blooms at their seasonal peak. It’s the perfect outdoor space that just feels like a classic garden wedding, and there are so many nearby spots in Hendrie Gardens for wedding portraits, including the outdoor rose gardens and tropical indoor Mediterranean Greenhouse

Then it’s on to the Auditorium for the reception, which got a $500,000 glow-up in 2025! New flooring, modern décor, and upgraded lighting make it feel fresh and stylish, but the real showstopper is the 3D rose wall. This incredible feature instantly elevates your wedding photos and head table setup, and the best part? It can be lit in your custom colour for that perfect personal touch. It’s a modern, versatile space that still keeps a connection to the gardens outside, making it one of my new favourite spots for a full-day wedding at RBG.

Pricing

As of 2026, wedding pricing at the RBG Rock Garden starts at $6,425, increasing to $7,550 for Saturdays and holiday weekends. At the RBG Centre & Hendrie Park, pricing starts at $7,925, rising to $9,925 for Saturdays and holiday weekends. These rates include spaces for your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, accommodating up to 100 guests at the Rock Garden and up to 250 guests at the RBG Centre.

Open bar options are priced separately, starting at $63 per person, and additional upgrades or seasonal adjustments may affect the overall cost.
