Located in the heart of downtown Hamilton, built in 1889 and restored in 2016, the Spice Factory is a unique urban landmark perfect for couples looking for an industrial wedding. The three floors of expansive great halls and exposed brick, make for an amazing choice for a wedding ceremony and reception with a historic flair.

A Unique History

The Spice Factory was built in 1889 and was originally home to – not a spice factory – but instead the Britannia Lodge for the Sons of England. And in case you're curious, the Sons of England were an English cultural society led by affluent Englishmen, professionals, clergymen, and former military officers who had joined local elites. At their headquarters on Hughson, they held their "At Home" social evenings, modeled on the English music hall, and on these occasions, the Sons were expected to “thrill to jingoistic songs, weep at evocations of England, savor warm dark ale and revert to regional dialects.” [2]

However, the Sons of England and the building they left behind had many tenants through the years. “The Hindoo Koosh Grotto was there. The Baptists too, they say. It's been home to charities, dancers, photographers, insurance agents. And at some point, a spice factory.” [1]

Reception & Ceremony Spaces

The Cilantro Room is the largest event space at The Spice Factory. Located on the ground floor this room stands out with its exposed brick walls, glowing edison bulbs, and rustic charm. Plus with its attached patio and onsite bar, it’s the perfect space for your wedding reception or cocktail hour.

The Black Pepper Studio on the second floor is a popular space for larger wedding receptions. With a stage for the wedding couple and wedding party, the space makes for a grand reception. The hardwood floors add warmth and charm, while the black ceilings create a contrast and a dramatic atmosphere. The space exudes a moody vibe that suits any style and theme.

On the third floor resides the Mustard Seed Loft. The go-to ceremony space, the loft is lined with chairs for you to say your vows. And the rustic chic vibe continues with the stunning red brick walls.

The Sage Room Suite with its large windows and floor-to-ceiling warm exposed brick provides the perfect location for those cherished photos and wedding preparations. With such beautiful natural light, this is my favorite room as a photographer for photos! You, your wedding party, and support entourage will have access to the Suite starting at 10:00 AM on your special day

The Nutmeg Nook Suite, a smaller additional space, is also available for the wedding day. It is a bit tight, but the large windows still create great light for photos!
